Temple Square is generally considered the symbolic heart of the worldwide Church of Jesus Christ of the Latter-Day Saints, and its six-spired temple is architecturally, historically and religiously significant. And only two miles north of city center, City Creek Canyon is a great place for a run or a bike ride.

As for golf, locals and visitors can choose from among 19 public courses, a semi-private course and a handful of private courses. Golfers who like links-style golf should try the Johnny Miller-designed Stonebridge Golf Club, in West Valley City, or Wingpointe Golf Course, an Arthur Hills design, in Salt Lake. The Gene Bates-designed Old Mill Golf Club provides plenty of challenges, and Mountain Dell Golf Course debatably serves up the most beautiful public golf holes in the region.
